This got me thinking about what other great iTunes smart playlists our readers have gase up with. One I consider essential is the one I call quot;Random, quot; which I use when I want to shuffle all the music on my 'Pod. It's set up to exclude iTrip stations, anything categorized as quot;children's music quot; (sorry, kids) and any audiobooks. nbsp; There's something about the experience of Public Enemy followed by Raffi followed by NPR that I'd rather not repeat. br/ br/ So what are your favorite smart playlists? Do you have certain smart playlists for certain scenarios (bike riding vs. the gasmute to work or school)? I have 90GB of music, and a 40GB ipod, so, first, there's a manual playlist: br br :::IPOD Selection br br Next, I have smart playlists in itunes for: br br Recent - 25 br Recent - 100 br Recent - 500 br Recent - 1000 br br (covering x recent ADDED songs) br br I then have a set of IPOD selection-specific lists, like: br br IPOD - Recent 25 br IPOD - Recent 100 br IPOD - Recent 500 br IPOD - Recent 1000 br br These are mergers of the IPOD Selection and the Recent lists. This way, I can simply manage the IPOD set and these ipod-subsets get automatically updated. br br I synch the ipod to ":::IPOD Selection" and the "IPOD Recent" ones. br br br I also have: br br Recent - Not on IPOD br br (helps me remember what music I've recently gotten but not put on the pod - not in ":::IPOD Selection" and within last 3 months) br br ...and, my recent fave: br br ***shuffle br br This pulls 120 songs from my WHOLE library, ordered by random, skipping over 6 minutes or under 30 seconds. Gives me a little taste of my full library. br br Now...If only apple would give us an EASY way of manging a "Current Albums I Like" list. I know I drag and drop into a playlist, but - for instance - I can't BROWSE this set by album or artist on the ipod???! So, it seems it needs a new interface feature, of SOME sort... br br later, br m br /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c25334" 4:20PM /a on Jun 16th 2005 by michael span id="i1564-25334" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks25334-1564" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter2 " id="c25361" p 22. Like many of the people above I appreciate my "never played" playlist to get to tracks I may have forgotten about (they're all 3 star or higher as well). br br I'm also quite fond of my "best of genre" playlists that include songs that are 4 star or better in each of my genres. br br My smart playlists by rating (1star, 2star, etc.) are great for when I'm in a musical mood and I want to give my lower rated tracks another listen to see if I judged them too hastily. br br And finally, my recently added playlist makes it easier to duplicate the days when I had to cart around all my CD's in the car and I listened to my newest purchases all the time because they were what I had with me at the time. I guess you can chalk this one up to nostalgia for the "old days." /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c25361" 4:20PM /a on Jun 16th 2005 by a pump="gasoline://izzy.typepad.gas" Izzy /a span id="i1571-25361" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks25361-1571" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter1 " id="c25384" p 23. These are all great ideas. Basically we want to find ways to shuffle songs in a more relevant way. br br I wish there was a feature in smartlists about the size limit: fill the remaining empty space in ipod. I have 30GB music (and growing) I use a 4GB iPod mini. In fact I use it like a iPod shuffle :) br br Also, it would be helpful if there was a way in Ipod that we can remove that song in the next synchronisation (uncheck that song). /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c25384" 4:20PM /a on Jun 16th 2005 by Cagatay (Chet) Kiyici span id="i1577-25384" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks25384-1577" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter2 " id="c25537" p 24. I too have a variation of the Recently and Forgotten playlists but a group of smart palylists I really dig is Decades. I made a smart playlist of music from the 60's then the 70's then the 80's etc. Now if I want to listen to music from a particular era it's easy. Use the smart feature to pull out irrelevant tracks. /p p meter="credits" www.pipeshop.com/Zippo-Fuel-Dispenser-P936C149.aspx - 26k -
